Don Lee Daniels — The Astral Monk
I grew up in a Southern Baptist family on the sugar-white sands of Destin, Florida — a surfer, a black belt martial artist, and eventually a full scholarship student at the University of Florida. From the outside, everything pointed upward.
Then the dreams began.
Vivid, electric, impossible to dismiss. Then the out-of-body experiences. One night, sitting in half-lotus on my bed, the Kuṇḍalinī — the mysterious power that resides in each of us — exploded up my spine and shot my awareness through the top of my head. Nothing was ever the same again.
I abandoned everything to fly to India to discover the truth of what I was experiencing. I sold my beloved 1972 Firebird for sixteen hundred dollars and bought a one-way ticket. I became a monk. I became Swami Jñānānanda Sarasvatī — formally initiated into the ancient eighth-century Saraswati Order of teaching monks, in the living lineage of Bhagāvān Nityānanda. In ashrams and temples, I dove deep into states of consciousness most people never touch — the Blue Pearl, conscious out-of-body experiences, the threshold states of tandra and turīya, samādhi.
Then I returned to the West, and lovingly took off my robes. And for these last decades I have lived a double life. On the surface: a teacher, a husband, a father. A man happily and fully engaged in the ordinary world. Beneath the surface — and often before dawn, and late at night — an explorer of the most extraordinary territory a human being can enter: the direct experience of consciousness itself, beyond the body, beyond the mind, beyond the boundaries of what most people believe is possible — what the saints, mystics, and sages tried to express in each of their ways and traditions.
I am not here to ask you to believe any of this.
I am here to show you how to experience it yourself.
In 1980, I was formally initiated into the Saraswati Order — an ancient order of teaching monks founded in the 8th century by Śrī Ādi Śaṅkarācārya. I received the monastic name Swami Jñānānanda Sarasvatī — the bliss of divine knowledge.
I belong to a living lineage associated with Bhagāvān Nityānanda, widely regarded as one of the great Siddhas and saints of modern India. This is a Chaitanya lineage — a living stream of awakened consciousness in which spiritual transmission flows not only through direct presence but through sacred forms including written word, teaching, audio, and digital media. Consciousness flows through form to ready participants.
My tradition is Nondual Śāiva Tantra (NST) — one of the most sophisticated and complete maps of consciousness ever developed, offering precise descriptions of how awareness contracts into individual form and how it expands back to its original nature as pure consciousness.

India, 1980 — Initiated as Swami Jñānānanda Saraswati
Alongside monastic formation, I hold a B.A. in Psychology magna cum laude with a minor in Comparative Religion, and an M.S. in Educational Technology.
For more than four decades I have taught Psychology, Comparative Religion, Meditation, and Eastern and Western Philosophy to thousands of students in high schools, colleges, and spiritual centers. I founded the Centre for Spiritual Enlightenment (CSE) and led classes, retreats, and meditation groups.
Throughout all of it — quietly, consistently, before dawn and late at night — the practice continued.
The Kuṇḍalinī energy has been ever-deepening, moving through the subtle body with increasing intelligence and grace. The flights into inner and outer consciousness have continued to accelerate — hundreds of conscious journeys beyond the body, each one confirming what the tradition has always taught: we are not this form.
The understanding has grown that everything — without exception — is the Play of Consciousness. The classroom. The meditation cushion. The dreaming body rising through the ceiling at 2 a.m. The ordinary Florida morning. The dying pelican at the water's edge. All of it arising from the same luminous source, wearing different appearances, recognizing itself through every form it takes.
This is the direction the entire path moves toward — what the tradition expresses as Siddha Svātantrya Bhāva: the enlightened being lives in absolute freedom. Not freedom from life, but freedom within it. Not escape from the world, but the joyful recognition that the world itself is consciousness at play.
This is what forty years of practice has been moving toward. And this is what The Astral Monk exists to share.
The Astral Monk is a teaching platform built on a single conviction: direct experience reshapes your reality.
Not belief. Not philosophy. Not the secondhand reports of saints, mystics, and sages from centuries past. Though these reports are real, and they matter. But your own direct, firsthand, verifiable experience of consciousness beyond the body, beyond the mind, beyond the boundaries of ordinary waking life.
This is not passive spirituality. This is an active, experiential path — and it works.
DIRECT EXPERIENCE RESHAPES YOUR REALITY — through three core areas grounded in Nondual Śāiva Tantra and direct multidimensional exploration:
Not separate techniques. Different expressions of the same awakening force — consciousness recognizing itself through you. These three practices synergistically ignite each other.
This force has been recognized in every genuine mystical tradition in human history. Called Śakti in the tantric lineage I trained in. Called the Holy Spirit in Christianity. Chi in Taoism. Ki in Japanese practice. Rigpa in Tibetan Buddhism. Source in the emerging language of modern consciousness science. What the Christian mystics called divine union, what the Zen masters called satori, what the Vedantic sages called samādhi — these are not separate destinations. They are the same territory, approached from different roads. Different rivers. The same ocean.
The full teaching unfolds across four pillars:
◆ Pillar I: Direct Experience of Higher States of Consciousness and Multidimensional Realms — advanced meditation and astral projection and conscious out-of-body experiences (OBEs) as equal and synergistic pathways, with Kuṇḍalinī/Śakti as the underlying force of everything
◆ Pillar II: The Psychology of Self-Realization — integrating the heights of spiritual experience with grounded, embodied, psychologically healthy human functioning
◆ Pillar III: Technology for Human Consciousness Evolution — how emerging tools including AI, binaural audio, neurofeedback, and virtual reality can support and accelerate states that once required decades of disciplined practice
◆ Pillar IV: The Astral Monk Journey — the living memoir of a life spent between worlds, offered as map, testimony, and transmission
The platform includes a weekly newsletter, guided audio practices, and a forthcoming book. Videos and a podcast are on the horizon. Everything here emerges from one source: the testimony of lived experience, offered freely to sincere seekers everywhere.
